October 22, 2009 The winners of the Lee College of Engineering 2009 Teaching Excellence Awards are Dr. Bruce Gehrig for undergraduate teaching, and Dr. Kimberly Warren for graduate teaching. As the winner of the Undergraduate Award in Teaching Excellence, Dr. Gehrig of Engineering Technology was recognized for his significant contributions to curriculum development. He was a major contributor to the recently successful Construction Management program proposals. He is currently the principle investigator of a National Science Foundation program called "TECT: Teaching Engineering to Counselors and Teachers."
According to one student: "Dr. Gehrig is probably the best instructor I have had yet at UNC Charlotte. We covered all the topics in a timely and well organized manner. He is the most available professor I have had. He is a model for the rest of the faculty."
Dr. Kimberly Warren of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was the recipient of the Graduate Award in Teaching Excellence. The selection committee commended Dr. Warren on her consistently exceptional teaching record. Her past student evaluations were excellent and they continue to be outstanding. She has an “always accessible” policy inside and outside of the classroom. She is a leader in the effort to improve Fundamentals of Engineering results and serves on the Education Outreach Committee to support curriculum improvement. |
