| The Dean's Cup |
|
Oct. 30, 2009 An interdisciplinary team of civil engineers and engineering technologists defeated Mechanical Engineering in softball to capture the Lee College of Engineering Dean's Cup. The team of faculty, students and staff from the departments of Engineering Technology and Construction Management, and Civil and Environmental Engineering had little trouble in wresting the coveted trophy from Mechanical Engineering. No one actually knows what the final score was, but it's safe to say it wasn't close.
Both teams demonstrated that engineers do have athletic ability. Not all of them all of the time, but there are glimmers. And while the rules of softball were a bit puzzling, a number of international students showed that cricket players can swing a mean bat. All in all, everyone had a good time. The Dean's Cup is a perpetual trophy given by Dean Bob Johnson to promote friendly competition between college of engineering departments. Winners of the cup get to proudly display it in their department office, until the time that another comes along to challenge and defeat them.
