Call for COEN Scholarships Applications Call for Undergraduate Scholarship Applications Application Deadline: March 15, 2012 by 5:00 p.m. For the upcoming academic year 2012/2013, the Lee College of Engineering is pleased to announce that there will be a call for a limited number of undergraduate scholarships. This opportunity is for currently enrolled engineering students who have completed at least one semester at UNC Charlotte and have established a GPA. Students do not apply for any one specific scholarship. Once your application is submitted eligibility is verified and then the scholarship committee determines if the criteria is met for any of the scholarships that are available to award. Other Scholarship/Internship Opportunities The American Public Power Association (APPA) awards student research grants/internships each year to university students as part of its Demonstration of Energy-Efficient Developments (DEED) Program. APPA is the service organization for the nation’s community-owned electric utilities. DEED is APPA’s research program that funds innovative, energy related research. Student Research Grants/Internships $4000Application Deadline: February 15, 2012Ten student research grants/internships are awarded each year to undergraduate/graduate university students to conduct research on a project/internship in conjunction with a DEED member utility or as part of the students' curriculum requirements if approved by a DEED member. A mid-project report, final report, and abstract are required. Professional Engineers of North Carolina is a professional association of over 1,700 individuals including Professional Engineers; engineering associates, engineering graduates, and students. PENC is a state society member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. PENC has nine local professional chapters and four student chapters within North Carolina. PENC members represent all technical disciplines and all practice areas of engineering. The mission of PENC is to promote ethical, competent, and licensed engineering and to enhance the professional, social, and economic well-being of its members. PENC Engineering Scholarship $2000 Application deadline: March 5, 2012 The PENC Scholarship, administered by the Professional Engineers of North Carolina, is funded through an endowment established by the PENC Educational Foundation. The scholarship is intended to support talented North Carolina students studying engineering. Awarded once each year in the spring, the scholarship is available to rising juniors and seniors that have at least 2 semesters (1 school year) remaining in their engineering program and are enrolled in an ABET accredited curriculum at one of the 16 UNC campuses. Students should possess a strong academic record as well as community and/or work experience. Preference is given to student members of the National Society of Professional Engineers. The scholarship recipient will be invited to receive the scholarship award at a local chapter meeting convenient to the recipient. Bonner Eastern Carolina Scholarship is funded and administered by the Eastern Carolina Chapter of the Professional Engineers of North Carolina. The purpose of the Bonner Scholarship is to assist promising undergraduate engineering students from Eastern North Carolina with educational expenses. The scholarship is awarded once each year in the spring for the academic year beginning the following fall. Application and further information can be found at: http://www.penc.org/scholarships.aspx McKim & Creed Scholarship $2000 Application deadline: March 5, 2012 The McKim & Creed Engineering Scholarship, administered by the Professional Engineers of North Carolina, is funded through an endowment established by McKim & Creed with the PENC Educational Foundation. The scholarship is intended to support talented North Carolina students studying civil engineering. Awarded once each year in the spring, the scholarship is available to students enrolled in an ABET accredited curriculum at one of the 16 UNC campuses and that have 2 years (4 semesters) remaining in their engineering program after the Spring 2012 semester. Students should possess a strong academic record as well as community and/or work experience. Preference is given to student members of the National Society of Professional Engineers. This is a 2-year scholarship if the student remains in civil engineering at one of the 16 UNC campuses throughout the 2 years. The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. The Robert B. Oliver ASNT Scholarship $2500 Application deadline: February 15, 2012 The ASNT Robert B. Oliver Scholarship is an award given to recognize an undergraduate, associate or post-secondary student working toward a degree in nondestructive testing or nondestructive evaluation (NDT/NDE). The scholarship is awarded to the student submitting the best original paper on nondestructive testing. The paper should cover an original concept in NDT and may be based on practical experience, laboratory work or library research. A maximum of three awards is presented each year. Haworth Diversity Scholarship Award/Internship $2000 Application deadline: March 2, 2012 This award is for a college or university junior who is a member of a minority group, consistent with EEO standards. There are two diversity scholarships that can be awarded in the amount of $2,000.00 each. Applicant must be pursuing a Major area of study that is supported by Haworth's core business function and have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or greater. Applicant must be available for a 12 week paid internship within the year the scholarship is awarded at our Corporate Headquarters in Holland, MI. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Maximizing Academic and Professional Success (MAPS) Coaching MAPS Coaching Registration The College of Engineering MAPS Program is currently registering students for two coaching programs. 1. Transition coaching: For new students or those who want some additional help transitioning to the college. Learn strategies for success from upperclassmen and meet other students. Students in ENGR/ETGR 1201 can earn extra-credit by participating. Go to Smith 228 to register. 2. Rebound coaching: For students who are trying to improve their academic performance. Meet one on one with a student who has already been successful in the college to develop goals and an action plan for the semester.
