Student Leaders Print E-mail

The MAPS Program offers Lee College of Engineering students multiple opportunities to build leadership skills and connect with other students in the college community.

Coaches

Coaches assist new students with tranisition to the college and continuing students with maximizing their academic performance. They are upperclassmen who have a cumulative GPA above a 3.0, are involved in the college, and are passionate about helping other students succeed. Coaches hold weekly coaching sessions with students, participate in a weekly coach development program, maintain administrative records, and support other MAPS program functions.  If you are interested in being a coach, please fill out the online application at "Get a job."

SI Leaders / Tutors

SI leaders are undergraduate students who have earned an A in the class here at UNC Charlotte, sit through the class again, hold 3-4 SI sessions a week, and attend pre-semester and weekly training. SI leaders are trained in techniques to support student learning.  SI leaders are not just group tutors.  Rather, they are expected to have a lesson plan for each SI session.  Many SI leaders write quizzes and additional problems to help their students grasp the material.  Students interested in SI leader positions can apply at "Get a job." For the Fall 2009 semester, limited to no funding is expected for the engineering SI program.

Tutors are hired to support students in specific classes. Typically, they have earned an A in the class they are supporting.

Student Ambassador Program

The engineering student ambassador program gives students the opportunity to represent the college to potential students and employers.  Students volunteer to help at events such as Discover Engineering, the COE Picnic, and Explore Open Houses.

Student Organization Officers

The Lee College of Engineering is home to more than twenty student organizations. Some organizations are discipline-specific, but several are open to students from any discipline.  Being a leader in a student organization helps you develop your leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.  Perhaps that's why employers like to hire students who have been involved!
