Mosaic Account Activation Mosaic accounts for College of Engineering members will be activated the day they register for engineering classes. Non-College of Engineering majors accounts will be activated the day they register for an engineering class or the day their request for an account goes through the system. Mosaic Login Information If you are a new College of Engineering member (student, faculty, staff) your account on Mosaic is automatically set up. Your Mosaic user id is the same as your NinerNet id for reading UNC Charlotte email. Your initial Mosaic password will be your BannerID (800XXXXXX) followed by the MMDDYY of your birthday. You can log in with your Mosaic ID and password from any Mosaic workstation or using Mosaic Anywhere. For example, if your banner number is 800XXXXXX and your birthday is Jan 2, 2003, then your initial password would be 800XXXXXX010203 Disk Quota and File Storage All user files are stored on the network via AFS. This allows the files to be backed up daily as well as providing access via any Mosaic machine or even off campus with FileDrawers (http://coefiles.uncc.edu/). Your files reside on the H: drive under Mosaic Windows and in your HOME directory on Mosaic Linux. Students are given 2 GB of disk space and faculty are given 4 GB of disk space. Lab Location, Hours, and Rules Lab location and hours are always posted on the Mosaic Lab Map. Some of the Mosaic labs are on the Lenel security system. For these labs, you will have to swipe your UNC Charlotte ID card before you can enter the lab. Please read over the Mosaic Lab Rules before using your account for the first time. Available Software on Mosaic To support the College of Engineering’s vision of providing the latest technology to students, Mosaic includes many popular software packages. Laptop Initiative There are areas set aside for students to use their personal computers in the Smith, Cameron, Duke and Woodward buildings. The Student Union and Library also have space for students to use their laptops. Engineering students are welcome to use their laptops where space is available in Mosaic labs. All these spaces have wireless access and easy access to electrical power. Additionally, most classes will allow students to take notes on a laptop, though obviously usage could be limited when the classes go closed-note for quizzes, tests, etc. How do I access Mosaic Linux?
Please see our Mosaic Linux section on general information about our Mosaic Linux operating system including how to connect and other basic help. Mosaic Account Availability Upon Leaving the College of Engineering Please see the Mosaic account extension page for even more information. (1) Mosaic accounts that remain dormant or deactivated for nine (9) consecutive months will be deleted from the entire system.
