Mosaic Linux News Print
The Mosaic Linux X-Server pool has been enhanced with powerful servers running 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6 These Mosaic Linux X-Server systems provide unmatched computation cycles to address the need of many of the engineering applications that are now only available on Linux. The Linux x-Server pools consists of the following systems (including a Linux Compute Server):

Lxs-sm1,lxs-sm2:

  • CPU Model: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz
  • Cores: 8
  • Threads: 16
  • RAM: 64GB
  • 1 x 7200RPM hard drives

Lxs-sm3,lxs-sm4, lxs-me2, lxs-me3:

  • CPU Model: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz
  • Cores: 8
  • Threads: 16
  • RAM: 96GB
  • 2 x 7200RPM hard drives (RAID0) (twice the throughput of a single drive)

lxs-me1 (the compute server):

  • CPU Model: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz
  • Cores: 8
  • Threads: 16
  • RAM: 64GB
  • 2 x 15,000RPM hard drives (RAID 0) (four times the throughput of a single hard drive)

Any member of the College of Engineering may access these systems from Mosaic Windows or from a laptop. To see all the details about accessing Linux, please see our guides in the Mosaic Linux Tutorials.

To see what software is available on Linux go to the Available Software on Mosaic page and click on the Linux column to see the increased number and updated versions of applications on Linux.

We have made access to Linux from Mosaic Windows easier.

To access the Linux X-servers use the following: Mosaic XP > Linux Connect Me > To any available server.
