Using Mosaic Print

What is Mosaic?

Mosaic is a system of computers, servers, programs, users, professors, administrators that all work together to help the students of The Lee College of Engineering. By being a part of Mosaic as a user you have access to thousands of Windows XP based machines, 5 Linux severs, and a dedicated staff trained to assist and solve any problems you may face.

How do I get a Mosaic Account?

If you are enrolled in the Lee College of Engineering then you already have an account. If you are not an engineering major then you must apply for an account. To apply for an account please see the link on the left labeled Your Account.

I have an account now, but how do I login?

Now that you have a Mosaic account you may access any Mosaic Workstation (MWS). We have many dedicated labs that house these machines. These are located in Smith, Cameron, Woodward, and Duke. Once at a MWS, you will see a screen stating you must press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete combination to login. Once done you will be able to login in using your Mosaic credentials. Your log in id is your Ninernet username. For a password, it will be, 800XXXXXXMMDDYY, where as 800XXXXXX correlates to your student identification number and MMDDYY correlates to your birthday.

You are also able to log in to the Mosaic Anywhere servers. These servers are identical to the MWS systems but you do not need to be in a lab to use these. In fact you can log in to these from anywhere there is an internet connection.

Why does my NinerNET password not work with my Mosaic account to login?

You NinerNET password will not work with Mosaic login because these are two separate entities. Unless you change your Mosaic password to reflect the same password as your NinerNET then these passwords will be DIFFERENT.

Locating your Mosaic Directory Path

There are many ways to find your path in Mosaic.

  • You may also use the following instructions: To find out where your volume is located, open the File Explorer in Mosaic Windows and open My Computer. You should see the H drive, the U drive and the N drive (you may see local drives). Open the N drive and you will see many folders. One of those folders is named uncc. Open the uncc folder and then open the usr folder. Using the File Explorer Search option, search this folder for your Mosaic user id. When the search completes you will see the folder associated with your user id. If you have "shared out" a folder to other people, you should copy the path to it from the File Explorer and send this path to those individuals whom you gave access right. They will need to use this path in their Mosaic Windows File Explorer to access your shared folder.
  • You may also type in "ssh lxs.uncc.edu" from the Run command in Windows which brings up a Linux shell. You can then type "pwd" for present working directory.

**Lab machines may not be left unattended for more than 10 minutes, without prior approval from the Mosaic Technical Assistant on duty.

As a final precaution please read the rules and regulations posted in all Mosaic labs. These rules will be enforced.
