The research of Ph.D. student Fabien Besnard has multiple positive implications. It is reclaiming waste material from construction sites, producing fertilizer, and increasing the yield of plants for use in biodiesel.

With bridges across the country in a critical state of repair, the importance of inspection practices and bridge management systems are more critical than ever.  To improve such systems for bridges, Civil and Environmental Engineering professor Dr. Shen-En Chen is leading a team in the development of Commercial Remote Sensing (CRS) applications.

The Lee College of Engineering’s largest-ever Senior Design Expo saw projects ranging from an underwater robot to a tidal power generator, as more than 60 completed projects and 34 mid-semester projects were displayed at the May 7 event.

UNC Charlotte has admitted its first class of 15 Levine Scholars, including two who will be joining the college of engineering in fall 2010.

The spring Mechanical Engineering junior design project was to design and build a robot that could transport mock fuel-rod casks.

Two Electrical and Computer Engineering students have won National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships.

Dr. Scott Smith, chairman of the Lee College of Engineering’s Mechanical Engineer and Engineering Science Department, has been named the University of Florida Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering’s Outstanding Alumnus for 2010.

In fall 2010, the Lee College of Engineering will open the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) residential hall.
