To make dreams come true, sometimes you just have to go for it. Three UNC Charlotte graduates are doing just that, having formed their own NASCAR truck team. Supported by businesses and individuals, the Lee College of Engineering’s EPIC Scholars Program is advancing the energy engineering education of UNC Charlotte students. An important aspect of the university’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center, the EPIC Scholars Program has awarded 22 scholarships since 2008 and will award another 40 by 2015.

The William States Lee College of Engineering Teaching Excellence Awards for 2010 have been won by Dr. Kevin Lawton of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence, and by Dr. Srinivas Pulugurtha of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for Graduate Teaching Excellence.

The purpose of Lee College of Engineering Senior Design projects is to be valuable real-world learning experiences for students. In 2010, one project stood out in providing seniors a broad range of experience and knowledge, and bringing great value to the project sponsor as it led to the funding of a $1 million grant.
