Week of Monday, May 1 and 8, 2006
  • The final exam is Thursday, May 11, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in WH140.  Please remember to sit with a space between you and the next person.  Of note:
    • Have your student ID at the exam - you will need to show it when you turn in your test.
    • You may use the Wakerly book, pencils, erasers.
    • You may not use notes, assignments, old tests, another person, calculators, scratch paper, cell phones, or PC during the test.  Don't even bring them with you.
    • There will be no questions answered during the test.
    • The test is comprehensive.  It covers EVERY covered in class, on assignments, and in labs.
  • Dr. Conrad will not have office hours on May 9 and 11.
  • Final exams papers will NOT be returned.  You may examine your paper after the exam (through December 15).  I will not post a final exam solution.
  • I will not post final exam scores or final course grades.  I will not respond to emails with this information, either.

  • Extra Credit opportunity:  Wed 4/26, 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Work on your ECGR2181 computer assignment in WH140 (instead of during the 4/27 class) and earn 5 points extra credit.  Alumni will be in the room from 7:30 to 7:45 p.m., so you will need to be in there quietly listening to a presentation.  Only the first 12 people who sign up are eligible.
  • Use this data sheet for problem 6.10, Homework 9.

  • Extra credit opportunity:  Engineering Technology is running an event for high school students on Wednesday, 3/15.  They need assistance to show students around, help run event, and guard the cookies (to keep the kids from licking them - no kidding!).  You can earn 5 points extra credit for each 1.5 hour shift you help.  (7:30 - 9, 10-11:30, 12 - 1:30, 1:20-3).  If interested, send an email to Steve Kuyath at sjkuyath@uncc.edu.

  • The Intel information session is Tuesday, 2/14/06, 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. in Woodward 120.  The primary audience for the talk and intern position: BS and MS candidates in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, Computer Science.  We have an intern position in our server Bios / carrier grade Linux, and server management team in addition to the positions in board design.   (Columbia, SC)

  • Homework 4 is available, and due Thursday, February 9 2006.
  • It has been requested that I have regular office hours.  I have therefore changed my office hour policy:  I will hold office hours Tuesday and Thursday, 9:45 to 11:45 a.m.  I will not answer knocks on my door - please respect that when my door is closed, I am likely deep in thought and cannot be disturbed.  You can also schedule an appointment with a minimum of 24 hours notice.
  • Scholarship announcement:  The Naval Research Enterprise Intern Program (NREIP). The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) is now administering NREIP, sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). NREIP is a 10-week summer research opportunity for undergraduate juniors and seniors, and graduate students, under the guidance of a mentor, at a participating Navy Laboratory. The stipend amounts for the program are $5,500 for undergraduate students, and $6,500 for graduate students. U.S. citizenship required; Permanent residents accepted at certain labs. The application must be completed by February 17, 2006.
  • Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship Program. This scholarship program provides students with stipend allowance, full tuition, book allowance, room and board and other normal educational expenses. The purpose is to promote the education, recruitment and retention of undergraduate and graduate students in science, mathematics and engineering studies. The SMART Scholarship Program is open only to citizens of the United States, and students must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible.   • You’re invited to attend the Experiential Learning & Part-Time Job Fair!  Held on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 from 1-4pm in the Lucas Room, this fair is for all UNC Charlotte students seeking an internship, co-op, 49ship or part-time, off-campus job.  Employers will be on hand from a variety of organizations, and are seeking students of all majors!  To see who’s coming, go to www.career.uncc.edu. 

    Remember to dress appropriately for all job fairs, and stop by the University Career Center (UCC) to have your resume critiqued.  Drop-in hours in the UCC are:  M,T,F, 10-2pm and W,Th from 11:30-3:30pm.  We also have drop-ins on Tuesday evenings from 5-6pm. 

    Statistics show that students who graduate with work experience under their belt stand a better chance of getting hired more quickly, and often for higher salaries.  Don’t miss out on a chance to meet employers in person!

Week of Monday, January 9, 2006
  • Welcome to ECE 2181!  The first day of class is Tuesday, January 10.
  • Notes 1 and 2 have been posted and are on the notes page.
  • The book, Digital Design, Principles and Practice by John Wakerly will be used in this class.  Obtain a copy from the bookstore or purchase it online.  Make sure to get the fourth edition.
  • This class will be based heavily on the web pages.  For example:
  • There will be a few computer assignments to practice the concepts learned in class.  The Xilinx tools are available on university MOSAIC machines.  We will also use FPGA boards in Woodward 203.
  • Homework 1 is available, and due Tuesday, January 17, 2005.  It's simple - just based on the syllabus, class discussions, and the first book chapter.
