This site has a few (very rough) working notes from the first offering
(Spring, 2003) of a junior-level elective course in
Human Powered Engineering at UNC Charlotte. Hopefully, the notes will
grow in scope and depth as the course evolves.
Thanks to Eric Carter, Scott Haigler, Chris George,
and Paul Keener for typing up the notes and preparing the excellent figures
and graphics.
Check it out -- some interesting applications of basic
engineering principles to human powered locomotion.
Bicycle Propulsion
Steering and Stability of Two-Wheeled Vehicles
Human Powered Helicopters
Aerodynamic Design of HPVs (prepared
by 2003 HPV Team)
A Simple Method for Estimating Drag on HPVs
A Short Overview of Human Powered Engineering (2003 Senior
Design Presentation)
